On July 12, 2021, a head-on collision between two vehicles in Riverside killed an Anaheim resident named Cruz Carrasco. As per reports, the accident happened at about 01:00 am around California Avenue. Officers came to the spot immediately after they received dispatch calls.

As per the Riverside Police Department, a driver was heading north in a Lexus sedan along Tyler Street when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. At that time, Carrasco was southbound in his Nissan Sentra. Then, Carrasco tried to move away from the path of the other vehicle when it jumped the median at the center of the road. Consequently, both automobiles crashed head-on.

While the sedan driver was seriously hurt and had to be transported to a nearby hospital, Carrasco was declared dead then and there.

Police shut down both directions of the street during preliminary investigation and cleaning procedures. It is not known whether intoxicating substances contributed to the collision or not. There is an ongoing investigation into this matter, so we might know more information later.
